Garbage dominated by plastic waste is seen on the north coast of Jakarta on Thursday, March 15, 2018. Based on research from a researcher from the University of Georgia, USA, Jenna Jambeck, published in 2015, said that Indonesia ranks second in the world as a waste contributor plastic to the sea, with a total of 187.2 million tonnes. This figure is below China, which ranks first as a plastic contributor to the oceans, which is as much as 262.9 million tons. Followed by other Southeast Asian countries, the Philippines, Vietnam and Sri Lanka. In response, the Indonesian government has pledged to reduce plastic waste in the sea by up to 75% by 2025, by suppressing the use and consumption of plastics, especially plastic shopping bags, and food-beverage packaging, and increasing the production of recycled plastic waste.
